All firearms must be transferable in the State of Maryland
Handguns (Make and Model) must be approved by the Maryland Handgun Roster Board

Long Guns must meet the criteria for legal firearms in Maryland

 

Transferees must provide:
A State issued form of identification with current address ATF Form 4473
Maryland Form 77R (as required) Maryland HQL (as required)

All transfers will go through a background check either through the State with the 77R or NICS 
(FBI) 4473. Maryland background check is $10. Maryland regulated firearms have a 7 day waiting 
period from the time that the 77R is completed and submitted for review. Non-regulated firearms 
undergo a NICS background check and transfer is completed when the background check returns 
“approved”.

*If the regulated firearm does not have an approved integrated mechanical safety device, the dealer 
must provide an approved safety device to satisfy Maryland law. The transferee can provide their 
own mechanical safety device as long as it is on the approved integrated
mechanical safety device list.
